Domestic wind turbines?

Hello, for the past two years we have been mulling over having a wind turbine in the garden to generate our own electricity. Today on Working Lunch, BBC, they were talking about this, the government give from what we remember twelve million a year for this, and have reduced some of the larger grants to make room for smaller ones, we think they said up to two thousand five hundred pounds for domestic ones.
Has anybody on here done this yet, from what we assume, your turbine charges batteries which in turn give you electricity. We live by the sea so get plenty of wind!!
We were wondering where you start, ie internet installation companies, planning permission?? etc., etc., so it would be helpful to find someone who has done the exercise or better still got a wind turbine.
Best wishes and thanks, , oap
