PPI Help - Mortgate Santander

I had a mortgage with Santander taken out April/May 2005 through a broker.
I was told that I had to take out PPI or Santander wouldn't give me the mortgage...there were so many clauses for my disability the PPI was worthless.
I have had a SAR with Santander and there is nothing in there about the PPI. Is this normal to withold or do I need to query it with them?
Can someone please help with how I can move forward.
