We have lived in our house for 1 year now, we have stopped with the previous owners suppliers.

SSE for both Gas and Electric, both on standard rates.

I'm am sure there are cheeper rates out there and have signed up to energy club, but I have no idea what to do for the best, and just get confused!

Can anybody advise the best way to go?

If you have signed up to the MSE CEC, then that should also alert you to any cheaper tariffs (depending on how you set up your profile)

As this is a moneysaving site, choosing the cheapest would be the general advice ... unless you have a good reson not to. e.g. perhaps paying a small premium that the security a fixed rate tariff could provide may suit you better.

Don't go for the cheapest, find a company with good customer service and charges accordingly. :rotfl:
It's like saying find a good builder that is a bit expensive, which is a great way to stop people from asking you for advice EVER again.

People just want to pay less, period.

The question is essentially which prostitute (supplier) is cheap but not so bad that she gives you syphilis: but you don't mind crabs from time to time.

If you've been in your house for a year then you should have a really good idea of how much you've used in Kw, which means you can use the comparison sites to check out who will give you the best deal based on actual useage rather than a guesstimate.
Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers
