Not Known Company on Credit Files

Good Morning,

Hope somebody can help me out.

Myself and my partner are looking to get a mortgage so therefore we have checked her credit file (£2 Equifax Statutory Files).

We have noticed that there has been an account opened in October last year and settled in April this year, from "Mail Order Agency from Shop Direct Finance Company Ltd".

My partner has no idea what this is, and after a quick search, it says that that company is linked with catalogues etc.

It looks like someone has opened an account up in her name!!
How do we found out who the account is with and how do we close it?

Luckily, whoever has opened it has paid the balance every time and not left any bad credit rating!.... Very strange!

Best Regards

Double check your accounts for anything else of a similar amount. Sometimes if you buy something from a store on a credit agreement, it will appear on your credit report under the name of a totally different company.

Other wise challenge with Equifax, to get the full details of the company reporting the transactions and then challenge tehm to provide full details. The may claim 'Data Protection' - but if they do, then they have no right to put the info on your files!
You might as well ask the Wizard of Oz to give you a big number as pay a Credit Referencing Agency for a so-called 'credit-score'
  • hi shop direct finance runs these catalogues

    Littlewoods
    Very
    isme
    K&Co
    Woolworths online
    and Littlewoods Ireland

there is a list of contact details here for them https://www.shopdirect.com/shop-direct/contact-us

i would try and contact them and see if they can be of any help because surely they should have a record of the account if they are reporting to the CRA and would also contact the CRA and see what they can do to help . would also keep an eye on her report just incase there has been anything else opened in her name .

Ive checked her credit files and that is the only thing which she doesnt know what it is.

Should I ring all them companies and ask if she has an account with them or should i contact equifax to find out exactly who is it.

Can something be on your credit report if it doesn't come out of your bank?
For example, she has car insurance in her name, but the money comes out of my bank. Could this be it?

Surely if that was it, it would should as monthly payments and not as a credit limit?

i would give the companies a try first and see what they say then contact equifax .

things can show on your credit file even if you don't pay them via a
    bank account .

don't take my word for it but i don't think car insurance shows on your credit file even if you pay monthly as you have not physically borrowed money you are just paying against an agreed policy (my patner's car insurance is paid monthly and is not on his credit file)

going by their about us page on their website they only do catalogues / online and home shopping retail so its unlikely that it would be car insurance http://www.shopdirect.com/shop-direct/

Has she ordered anything via the shop direct trading names mentioned? Sometimes these companies open a credit account even if you are just ordering and paying straight away.

Alternative is either an error incorrectly matching someone else's account against, or some sort of attempted ID fraud. Later would be odd though if the account has been paid.
