Car Insurance cancellation customer rights?

Hi

I like to know that if I cancel a car insurancy policy that has not been started/active yet then am I entitled to a full refund?

Or

If the insurance company cancels the policy before the policy has been started/active then am I entitled to a full refund?

Can a car Insurance company get away with any amount of cancellation charges/admin fees they like to impose?

The terms for cancellation vary but will be set out in the policy.

It's not unusual to have to pay a fee whenever you cancel.

What do the T&Cs of your policy state?

The FSA previously investigated cancellation fees and asked a sample of insurers to provide their calculations of how much it costs to set up a new policy to judge if the cancellation fees are proportional to the cost incurred.

I know when my client at the time was asked it was just for new business and renewal business and not explicitly asking about pre-inception cancellations (not that much would change)

If the insurance cancel the policy then you need to declare that when getting quotes in the future. You dont want them to cancel the policy.

When you apply for a quote you are always asked if you have ever had a policy cancelled by any insurer.

If you have ever at any time had a policy cancelled then you must declare it.

Many insurers (including virtually all off the peg online insurers) will not even quote you with this in your profile.

In your 1st post you said
If the insurance company cancels the policy
You need to avoid that like the plague. Something that some companies seem to ask have you EVER had a policy cancelled. And some wont quote when you say yes, And possibly wont payout if you say no and they later find out you lied.
