House Alarm Maintenance Cover ?

Options
I had a look but can't see any discussions about House Alarm Maintenance cover. My current deal, with a local company, gets me an annual inspection and test of the system, and the right to call them out 24/7 at a discounted rate (not free!). All that for £88. Is there much competition in this field?

You are generally tied to the company that installed your alarm. You can arrange for another firm to take over the maintenance but they will normally want to inspect the system beforehand and change the bell box on the front of the house. This is not normally free in my experience. The companies are quite picky about this because they all work to ISO QA schemes as part of their NSI or SSAIB accreditation.

Prices tend to range from £60 to £150 for annual maintenance. You tend to find the nationals charge more than small local firms.

I didn't realise how well off I was. Mine charges £70 per year which gives me annual inspection plus free call out 24/7. Have used that 3 times this year when my motherboard went haywire. They virtually had to put me a new system in to fix it.

I pay £24pm for central station connection and maintenance and inspection.

Central station connection is the most expensive part of an alarm system and without it, the system is virtually useless. The number of zones will have an impact on pricing as well.
