claiming PPI

First time writing a thread, so this question could've been answered before.
Applied to Halifax for PPI last year, but they said that we did not have a case, so suggested we applied to the ombudsmen, unfortunately due to unforseen circumstances, I did not fill out form that I received from the ombudsmen, but have been told that they is a 6 months limit, it is now well over 6 months, can anyone tell me if it is too late, and if it is, is there anything else I can do to reclaim my PPI

Did Halifax say in writing its their final response to reject your PPI claim, if so then its too late, if not you need a final response letter from Halifax before going to the FOS for them to take up your case.

The FOS are very tight on enforcing the 6 month rule. You would have to explain away the whole of the period you failed to bring it to them (not just the 6 months after you got the final outcome letter from Halifax). Typical examples are incapacity or death of a direct family member. They will not accept too busy or forgot as examples.

  • The reason I did not fill out form, was that my partner was very ill and was in hospital for quite a while, and in the end had to have a defebrillator fitted. Do you know what information the FOS would need.

You can approach FOS with this reason, but there can be no guarantees.
Obviously, even if FOS do accept your tardy referral it's not certain that your original complaint will be upheld.
  • Thanks very much for all your advice, I will get in contact with FOS tomorrow, and see how it goes

You tell them exactly that. However, time is important. If it is not 12 months from the point of the final outcome letter, you would have to explain the 12 month period.

You would probably also be asked for medical evidence.
