UKCPS Parking Fine but never been there!

Hello
Have just received a UKCPS unpaid contractual parking charge letter requesting payment of £100.
The letter claims my vehicle was parked at a superdrug in Lincoln in May this year, and that a parking charge was fized to it.
I have never been to Lincoln in my life, have found no such parking charge fixed to my vehicle, and at the time was living and working at the other side of the country, as I have been for the last 10 years!
However, the vehicle registration quoted is for my vehicle.
The letter claims: 'The reduced charge of £60 has not been paid and the amount now due is £100.00'
I am presuming this is an outright scam but has anyone else received anything similar?
Any help appreciated.
Thanks

This has happened before, have they supplied you with a photo?
Alot of people get the idea that their vehicle number plate has been cloned, this can be a serious issue, and should be investigated.
However its probably down to the fact that someone with a simalar muber plate to yours has been clocked and an employee at UKCPS cant read - or their typing skills are worse than mine and as such they have made a mistake.
My advice would be to challenge this to UKCPS something along the lines of
"To whoever, you recently sent me an invoice for a parking charge requesting payment for £100, please be aware that I have no liability to your company, and you have no right to make this charge as:
The charge is clearly punitave and as such is a penalty charge for which you have no right to charge.
And my vehicle was not parked in your car park, you have obviously made an error.
As such you must now cancel this invoice, as i will not be paying you.
if you do not agree to this then you must send me a POPLA verification code at a cost to yourselves of £27+VAT ( which is ireecoverable) I am fully aware that the decision of POPLA is binding upon yourselves (UKCPS) but not on me, as the registered keeper. From the Plain Language Commission:

No, no photo was supplied with the letter.
Thanks for your quick reply. That's reassuring and very helpful advice.
Guess a direct reply like that will put an end to their efforts, as opposed to ignoring their mailings which could continue indefinitely...0 -

You guess wrong, this is notorious firm and it won't stop them. I reckon you will have to take this to POPLA as the second stage appeal. But it will cost UKCPS £27 plus VAT to see their fake PCN cancelled (as long as you get our forum help to word the POPLA appeal). Do not rely on just saying 'I've never been to Lincoln' at POPLA stage even though it sounds mad to need to say more. You'll need more at that stage!
It will have been sent to you as UKCPS have applied to the DVLA for your vehicle details rather than the actual car. So when sending that challenge to UKCPS, also email the DVLA to complain about them releasing your data when your car has never been there. Email FOI@dvla.gsi.gov.uk and report UKCPS for applying for your data under false pretences and ask what the DVLA are going to do about it as they issued your data without even the most rudimentary check.
By the way you do know never to pay a fake PCN even if that had been your car parked there, I hope!PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

OK, thanks Coupon-mad. And for that last bit - no prior experience of any of this so much appreciated.
Thanks also to Half_way.
I'll start sending emails as suggested.0 -
I wouldn't specifically say go to popla, as you would in their eyes be admitting some sort of liability to them
Dear UKCPS
In regards to the invoice xxxxxx dated xxxxx, the keeper denies all liability to your company. The keeper or vehicle has never been to Lincoln. Obviously your CCTV is defective, or your operative is. The keeper demands that this fake parking ticket is cancelled immediately.
The keeper also demands that photographic evidence is provided to ensure this vehicle has not been cloned, any evidence sent will be reported to the authorities if its deemed necessary.
