was in a meeting today with dwp (group meeting) . anyway was informed that now anyone on dla and under retirement age will , once they retire, no longer get dla but attendance allowance . this will be same for pips etc . this is underhanded of the government , what are we supposed to live on if suddenly our moneys cut in half and no mobility car so stuck at home :mad::eek:

i`ve always seen its as wrong that some people aged 65 get dla and all that can entail whilst those of the same age in theory will only get AA and less money, probably one of this govts more sensible reforms0

why do you think that once i get to 65 i suddenly dont need any help with care and mobility , will i suddenly get better !!0 -
the reasoning behind it is that peole aged over retirement age should expect to be less mobile than they were when younger, and that it just a natural part of the aging process.
while making everyone move to AA at retirement age is fair on paper....
those that have mobility needs substantial enough to receive, especially high rate mobility, are starting 'old age' at a greater disadvantage already.
losing £50 a week overnight would be a big hit for anyone0 -
but do you think it's right that someone who develops a disability age 65 or over is not entitled to this extra payment whereas someone who developed same need 1/5 or 10 years earlier does.why do you think that once i get to 65 i suddenly dont need any help with care and mobility , will i suddenly get better !!
If we have a benefit system to aid disabled persons it should be equal and not age discriminatory.

If you are awarded PIP before you are 65 it can continue after age 65.
DLA was the same. If you were awarded DLA whilst you were under 65 or state pensionable age then you continued to get it (providing you were eligable) after you reached state pensionable age.0 -

What meeting & what was your role as you are reporting something I have not seen or heard of until I read your post. IE Those on DLA, under retirement age, once they pass their retirement age, will be moved, or asked to apply for AA & lose the mobility part.
Do you have any links to support your information as it will cause worry to many reading unless you are getting matters mixed up? Or unless I am misreading what you say?0 -
I haven't heard of this either, as far as I am aware anyone receiving DLS before 65 continues to do so afterwards. And anyone applying for aid over 65 receives if eligible AA.
Where have you got this information from, can we have link please.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -

Quite.
On the other hand, the OP may have just slightly misunderstood and this was a focus group to investigate options.
