Boots sickness policy help

Options
I does anybody know what the policy is on sickness in Boots.
I can't seem to find my hand book. I have worked there since October 2010 and am due an operation soon and will be off work a few weeks and wondered what pay I would receive.
I have only ever had a couple of days off and that was 2 years ago.

    Why not just ask HR?

In a lot of cases, it's at the managers discretion. I think every place I've worked for, it states what the company would pay - however, when it's come to people being off sick, they read out the small print of 'it's at the managers discretion'. I would like to think something like an operation, you would receive full sick pay, however, it is definately worth asking your manager. You have a few years service and a fairly good sickness record, so those points go in your favour.

A huge company like Alliance Boots will have a clearly laid out policy on staff sickness and payment. This is highly unlikely to be at the manager's discretion in my view. Just ask at work to see the policy.

You may be entitled to statutory sick pay (SSP). Maybe do a benefits check or a quick google on this to see?
Obviously you work may or may not have enhanced sick pay as well.

Just to say, if your employer provides company sick pay, then the SSP element is deemed to be included in that.

However, as others have said, the simplest thing to do would be to contact HR and ask for a replacement handbook - or check your contract of employment as sometimes the outline of the sick pay scheme is stated there.
