Toshiba 32" tv problem

Options
My Toshiba 32" tv has, after 3 years, developed a shadow effect like a wave on the bottom half of the screen. It's obviously something to do with the LED. Sainsburys have said I'm beyond my 1 year and Toshiba have said the same. What happened to the EC law about lasting a 'reasonable time'? What to do next please?

GayleB, what you need to do is read MSE's Consumer Rights article.

Having done that, you will understand that Toshiba owe you nothing more than their warranty offers.

Sainsburys however, do still have a responsibility under the Sale of Goods Act.

    Also read How to Complain.

By the way, for next time you might be interested to know that John Lewis offer a free five year warranty on all tvs sold.

Are you sure it's an LED backlit TV? Is the TV connected to a set-top box/Sky/Cable? Have you tried a different HDMI/SCART cable. Do you see the wavy lines on all input sources?

What model is your TV? I also have a Toshiba 32" TV but it's not showing any issues. Mine is a Regza 32RV635DB which is an LCD not an LED panel. (So are you sure yours is LED?)

But from a CR perspective the previous posts have this covered - any rights you have are with the retailer not Toshiba. After this length of time you'd likely need to get a report to confirm the fault was inherent (present at the time of sale, but not apparent until later).

You would have to pay for a report yourself to see if the fault was inherent. If found to be so, you will get your money back.

If its just a fault, then you wont be reimbursed for it.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
