Personal Injury Pedal Cyclist Solicitors/Insurers

Hi All,

I was recently involved in an accident which resulted in my being knocked off my bike. The driver has accepted fault and therefore I have been made an offer by the insurance company. I haven't accepted it as yet because I am suffering back pains which has prevented me from doing the normal things I do (including cycling and training for an up and coming 1/2 marathon) and I would like a figure which will cover treatment (currently I don't know how many osteopath sessions I will need). I understand that solicitor's will now take a percentage and I wondered whether I could try and speak to my own car insurers for legal advice. Does anyone have any experience on this?

Secondly my car insurer is the same car insurer of the driver at fault and I wondered if this obvious conflict would actually put my claim at risk - Am I likely to get a genuinely fair offer, rather than the lowest offer, if the insurers are the same?

Any advice would be greatfully received.

If you have legal cover with your insurance check it to see if you can use it for non car policy related issues.

Apart from this your car insurer won't help (but might set one of their tame pi injury ambulance chaser "associates" on you for the business.

Solicitors do now take a cut to pay their fees, though the compensation has been increased to soften that blow.

Definitely still well worth getting your own solicitor to deal with this.

Check your home insurance and if you have Legal Expenses insurance on that as it will allow you to retain all the compensation. Just make it clear to them you were on a push bike and not a motor vehicle
