Sent a bill 10 months after leaving
Hello, I left npower for gas and electricity on 12 & 14th August respectively last year. I just had a letter from them saying they are having trouble getting me my bill. I called them assuming it was a mistake and they say I never had my final gas bill but is it ok to send me one now??? Although I said no, obviously, they are sending it anyway. I am pretty sure I don't owe them anything, but if I do, can they still expect me to pay after all this time?
Thanks for your advice

Why did you say it was not ok to send you your final bill now?
If you don't owe anything, then the final bill will reflect this. It might even show they owe you some money.
Either way, you'll find out when the final bill arives0 -

Hi Rufty1,
Would you like me to take a look into this for you and see what's happened here?
Do you still have your final meter readings when you left npower?
My email address is on my profile page if you want to send me the details?
Best wishes,

You need to know what the meter(s) read when you left and what you were last billed for.
If the bill they sent previously covers the meter reading when you left (and you've paid it of course) then you owe them nothing further
If you left with a reading higher than shown on your last bill then you owe them for that extra consumption, 10 months on or not.
If they are saying they are billing you for some point in excess of the read when you left it may suggest a discrepancy between the closing read you offer & opening read the new owner / tennant offers and a dispute brewing.
Did you give them a closing read when you left 10 months ago, and if so did you make any efforts to chase up any missing bill?0 -
Make sure they've got the correct date for when you left your last house.
I've just have a letter through from a debt collection agency chasing a supposed outstanding bit for £170 from my previous flat. I phoned NPower because it was the first I'd heard about it, and they confirmed that I owed it but had sent the original bill to the wrong address. I asked them to check what months this bill covered and discovered that it was the 3 months after I'd left! Apparently they'd changed their computer system and the new one hadn't updated properly. I don't owe them a penny.Saving for deposit: Finished! :j
