Car Insurance 'Holiday' coming to an end

Options
3 years ago I sold my own car as I had a company car. At that time I was informed by my Insurance Company that I could have a '3 year holiday', whereby after 3 years I could carry-on my insurance and retain my full protected no claims discount.

The 3 years are up in August and I still have a company car. The Insurance company have informed me that I can only 're-start' my policy, with the full protected no claims discount, on a car that I own, meaning I would have to buy a car. I thought I might be able to take a policy out in my name on a car owned by my daughter (she has her own policy insurance), but I can't do this as my insurers have informed me you can't have 2 insurance policies on 1 car.

As I feel the Insurance Call Centre operator didn't sound too confident on the answers she gave me, is there an alternative way I can re-invoke my policy (without having to buy a car) to retain my protected no claims discount?

I haven't made any Insurance claims with the Company car insurers.

With only 5 years to go to retirement I could do without having to pay Car Insurance in 5 years time without any discount!!!!
It has taken about 4,500,000,000 (4.5 billion) years for the Earth to form as it is now .........
and it'll only take about another 100 years for mankind to really **** it up!!!!

Could you not combine your old NCD and your company car NCD? I had a company car for over 5 years, and when I bought my own car Direct Line let me have full NCD based on the company car NCD - all the wanted was a letter from my company confirming I had had a company car and any accidents.

I am sure more companies let you "carry" over your company car NCD to your own private insurance.
