Accommodation in London

Does anyone on here have any experience of or recommendations for cheap accommodation for a group of people (8/10) in London near the O2 Arena?

Over a weekend, Saturday-Monday or Friday-Monday whichever works out the best value with offers for extra nights or whatever..

Been looking at hotels around the Greenwich and Docklands areas, also holiday homes but they all seem to work out pretty expensive, even the discount places like travelodge as we'd need at least 3 rooms as max per room is 3 people and we will have a group of at least 8.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

London Thameside YHA is very cheap with rooms starting at £50 and beds from £16 per night. It's quite walkable from the O2.

Saturday nights are always difficult and more expensive, I'm afraid...

Staying Saturday to Monday you could perhaps take advantage of the IHG offer of two nights for one - there's a Holiday Inn Express in docklands.

Check the rates returned with this link though - I may be wrong but I seem to recall that when selecting this offer they display the rate as averaged over the two nights (so if the usual room rate is £120 a night, then if you tick the 2-4-1 offer it comes back as £60 a night - but that's the rate you have to pay for both nights, even though it may say that "the second night is free". You can get caught out paying more than you think if you dontl realise what's happening.

The Mitre pub hotel in central Greenwich is nicer than it sounds and well-located. Their website rack-rate seems high, but there are deals for £60-70 per double on Expedia etc. But could be tricky to get space for such a big group. Try contacting the Greenwich Tourist info centre- they affer a booking service; Tel: 0870 608 2000 Email: tic@royalgreenwich.gov.uk

Look at the Bankside House as this is very close to Southwark or London Bridge which are on the Jubilee Line so about four stops.

Right in the heart of London with the Tate, Globe Theatre, Southbank, London Dungeons and Tower Bridge etc etc right on your doorstop

I am staying at the docklands Holiday Inn Express this weekend so am glad to hear it was very nice. I am paying £129 total for 2 nights which includes free breakfast through Greenroom offer. I have also stayed at Greenwich Holiday Inn in the past and that was very nice and fine for visiting O2 arena (about 7 minutes walk).

I've stayed at the Ramada Docklands several times for £20 a night (last time was at the start of this month, Sat and Sun nights).

Unfortunately, this needs to be booked in advance via a newspaper special offer. Seems to occur once a year so look out for it. Last time it occurred (in Oct 2012) I booked 6 nights at various Ramadas.

Not much use if you're looking to book now, but hopefully it'll be back again later in the year as it's a cracking deal...

When we go to the O2 we stay at the Travelodge at Tower hill, we then get the Thames clipper boat and enjoy a drink or 2 on the 40 min journey.
After we get the tube back to London Bridge station and a taxi back to the hotel.

You can also have a look at places like the Ibis on the other side of the river - if there's no traffic jams when you travel (and it should be light after the show) a black cab is about £13 and a minicab about £25. Of course if there is heavy traffic, the minicab may work out, but I'm a fan of real taxis.
