Baby movement & audio monitor

Hi, I was wondering if somebody would be kind enough to recommend one of these for us?

We just purchased the Angel one for £65 from Kiddicare as it was a good price, we were short of time and figured we could return it if it wasnt the right one. I was suprised when I read the instructions though that said we had to put a plank of MDF over the cot base to put the movement monitor on. I pressume I would need a piece of MDF for the moses basket then too if we want to use it in there.

Does anybody know if this is standard across all monitors and can anybody recommend a good one?

Any thoughts on this topic would be really apprecaited.

Felicity.

is there a reason that you need one of this?
i didn't have one. you will hear every movement of a new born baby anyway, my baby is 7 months and i still hear every movement she makes in the night!
plus most people put the moses basket right next to their bed anyway and the snoring will keep you awake, it did me anyway!

I went to the baby show recently and was impressed by what I heard about the movement monitors, however one thing they did say was that it had to be positioned on a solid base, so slatted cot bases and moses baskets wouldn't work. They also don't work with sprung mattresses.

We had already bought our monitor when we went, but when we were researching it we looked at the Tommee Tippee model. The movement sensors can only be used until the baby is about 6 months old anyway as they start wriggling at that age and aren't also positioned ideally on the sensor so can set it off.

We wanted one to be on the safe side as we had a close family friend die of cot death.

We already have a slatted cot and we are borrowing a moses basket so it looks like we will either have to have a mdf bottom made or go without.

    Thanks for your replies!

Felicity- I'm not familiar with this alarm but would putting the moses basket (with baby in) in the cot work re needing MDF.

    Hi ,

The idea of the piece of MDF or similar is so as the pressure on the sensor is consistent throughout the entire length of the sensor therefore stopping a false reading in pressure , does that make sense  . Anyway what you need is a placemat , like this in style http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/8405009.htm , a blob of Blutack in each corner and attach the pad to the placemat . Then stick the placemat with sensor pad under the mattress and away you go . I used the Angelcare monitor and when baby reaches the age of moving about just put the sensor in the middle of the cot and the sensor will pick up baby even when moving . I had mine attached to a silver coloured cork backed placemat and never ever once did the monitor go off in a false alarm .

Once you place it on a piece of wood or placemat/similar then it can be used on a slatted bottomed cot
