Will They Repair My 5G iPod???

Hey folks, your help is needed.

I bought an iPod through the Apple site, (it was a 20GB 5th Generation one, so it would be about 2.5 / 3 years ago now I think) and it has conked out, i.e, stopped working completely. I've tried and tried and tried again to fix it myself, but none of the troubleshooting on the Apple website helps, nor does linking it up to the computer, etc etc. It just shows a sad face on the screen.

Anyway, if i drop them a line, are they likely to tell me to take a hike? I mean, I don't have any extended warranty on the thing, but regardless, I paid £220 for it back then, it has hundreds of pounds worth of songs on it, and i feel it should be supported when it stops working. Do i have any chance of them taking it back and fixing it for me? The problem is, after all that time, I no longer have the receipt, but they should have a record that I bought it through their site, what with the Serial Number and all that, right?
The idea of just accepting the fact it's broken and that's the end of it is not very appealing to me - if they'd told me I'd be paying £70 a year for it and I would only get it for three years, I wouldn't have bought it!

Thanks for all your help people!

P.S. if their official stance is not to repair it, any ideas on a good letter of complaint or something to send them, in order to pressurize them into it?

The Sale of Goods Act allows you to claim for a reasonable time up to six years after the product was purchased. I presume you must have some kind of record for the purchase, such as credit card statement?

I doubt very much that they will repair
it out of the goodness of their hearts.
You could try writing a letter saying how much you
have enjoyed using your ipod and are lost without
it and if there is any chance they could repair
it or at least save your music from it.

Give it a try, you never know.
