deep graze on car against pillar in car park, should I claim?

Hi
I have never claimed on car insurance and just need some help and advice.
First the insurance particulars:
Admiral Car Insurance
6 years Protected no claims
renewal due Sept
Basically a pillar in a car park had a metal strip sticking out and was in my blind spot. While reversing out I deeply grazed my right driver door.
Should I make a claim for this? I do not know what to do and what will happen as a consequence?
Do they ask when it happened as I have been sitting on it not sure what to do.
Hope you can all help.
Thanks
