Improve credit rating

Options
Hi, my son (27 and in full time work for 4 years) has just been turned down for a loan, we think he has a problem with his credit rating because of problems with his student loan (Fair enough).
Any ideas to get it back on track asap

Has he got a copy of his credit file(s)?

If not he needs to start by getting that so he can see what is showing and people can advise on possible ways to start to rebuild his file.

What other credit accounts does he have (credit cards/ overdraft / loans / phone contracts etc)?

What sort of student loan did he have? new style where money is taken from your salary, or old 'mortgage' style?
What problems did he have with his student loan?

I thought only pre 1998 student loans went on credit reports? he would be too young to have had one of those?
Still rolling rolling rolling...... :) <
