Electricity Overcharge

Hi

I dont know if anyone can offer some advice....
I have been an Ovo customer since November 2011. In November 2012, I noticed when submitting my meter readings online that the day and night readings were being recorded the wrong way round, I flagged this up to Ovo immediately who assured me that they would look into the issue and that a dispute would have to be raised because of previous energy providers that were involved. Ovo have been really helpful and I had a response on 4th March to advise that I was owed over £800 for a 16 month period.

My query therefore is that if Ovo has acknowledged that I was paying almost double too much whilst I have been with them, then the previous energy suppliers had also been overcharging me. Having looked back at bank statements I was with Npower for the period October 2010 to November 2012 and British Gas from March 2007 to September 2010. Npower was charging me on average £106 per month and British Gas was charging me approximately £112 per month. From what Ovo has confirmed the amount that I should be paying is in the region of £40 a month so the two companies above were charging me substantially more.

I no longer have account numbers for when I was a customer of Npower and British Gas - I have made contact with British Gas and got a reply which was not very helpful. I have tried to contact Npower but their phone system doesn’t allow me to get through without an account number.

Is there anything I can do about reclaiming charges from companies I am no longer with? Any help appreciated - thank you

    Hi heylou20,

We can definitely have a look into this for you and check your previous account. We'd just need your address details to kick this off.

We'd also need to see your bills from Ovo and you'll need to perform a load test for us so we can verify this is all correct. If so, then we can update everything our end and re-bill with the correct readings.

My email address is on my profile page :)

    Kind regards,

    Adam :)
