Tradesmen - Looking after them

Hi All,
As some of you know, I am getting a lot of work done in the house we just bought. Thankfully, my tradesmen are all good so far (touch wood! ). The house is a building site at the moment with no power or toilet. They still manage without complaining. They are on site at 7am and they work so hard!

I really want to make them as comfortable as possible. At the moment, I have a kettle, tea and coffee supplies and some biscuits for them. Is there anything else I can do ? (ofcourse, I am going the pay them on time!)

I am particularly keen on hearing from tradesmen on this forum, what will make you feel valued and looked after in a job?

TBH, I'm surprised they haven't brought their own portaloo on site, most decent builders will do this as standard practice irrespective.

I'd say the tea and coffee is quite adequate and well accepted :)

I left tea, coffee milk sugar, and a couple of bottles of squash which went down well in the warm weather.

Once a week I would leave cake or doughnuts....and they used to leave me their unwashed cups to sterilise for the following week!

When I was getting my house renovated, I did what you have already done.

I also a couple of times a week, came armed with a stash of Bacon and sausage toasties, from a local caf!. to give them a bit of a treat. They were so pleased, They got rid of loads of junk for me , that otherwise I would have had to hire a skip for !.

Showing appreciation to them in little ways , will get the most out of them, IMO

It wouldn't work in every case, but when I was having my house renovated in the middle of a cold wet winter all the trades were delighted when I said that I didn't mind them smoking inside prior to the decorating being done!

If you are employing them for a good period its worth looking after them and they will do the same for you.

wouldnt recommend this one...it is still a workplace and as such should be smoking free..also if a fire were to start you may have problems explaining it to your insurance company.
