Made me sort my act out. No good having a new car on the drive if it puts you at risk of not being able to pay for it when the unexpected happens.
I now spend about £2000 on a car and its done me well. I have now saved enough to be able to buy a new car.
Saving previously was a hit and miss affair. Save for a few months then take it out repeat all too often.
Car was just over £2000 in 2009. All MOT's, Repairs, Tyres, Servicing and some upgrades. have cost about £700.
I feel like a change but, No rush its running well.
It never ceases to amaze me what you can buy for under £1,000 with a years MOT. I've had hot hatches, Jaguar S Type, estate cars, vans, diesel cars, convertibles, etc, etc.
My next plan is to gather up the money for a cheap mx5. I plan to run it as much as poss in the good weather0 -
I spotted an S type for £999 the other day. I presume its the thirsty petrol one though. But was it a V8? But you need the R for 400bhp, (drools)
You only get 300bhp with the other models or V6 with a rubbish 200 - 240bhp.
400bhp woould be ideal for my 1000kg caravan.
Visions of the cartoons spring to mind. Race away from the lights and the caravan breaks away from the chassis pauses in the air then drops.
You pull up and find the chassis/ wheels still attached to the car.
Considering a van next. Convert it to a day van. Or i may put some beds in also? Budget motorhome.
Seen plenty on youtube and some very good idea's. Although some people's idea of a motorhome doesnt match mine. A roll out mattress and a bucket is not quite what i had in mind.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -

Its the v6's i've had. Pretty much bullet proof and gives you high 20's in MPG. I've no current interest in the big BHP thing these days and the v6 is more than ample for wafting around.
Partial to an XJ too. Had a first-of-the-x350-shape 3.0 v6 2003 one in mid grey with light grey leather. Got it for £1850 as a main dealer trade in. Sold it on quite quick and havent seen another as cheap since0 -

I'd not had much experience with this before - first ever car was bought from a friend of my parents', second from a dealer, third from the internal-only "Small Ads" system at work. I used Auto-Trader for this car I now have and was absolutely staggered at the number of cars for under £1000 available locally to me.
Fair enough, some of them were pretty shoddy (the Ford Ka I looked at in particular was basically a filthy engine and some rust, held together by some shiny paint-work) but I'd say that the majority were perfectly OK.
I really LOVE my 'new' car. £975; great condition with full year's MOT, tax until November, four new tyres and rust-free. Plus I got £123 for scrapping the old, hated, Megane. Some of my colleagues (I know nothing about cars - I am a girlie-girl and require male assistance in such matters, though I can check the oil and screen-wash and change a bulb by myself, hehehe...) said that it's "a buyers market" at the moment. From my experience, I don't think it's necessary to pay over £1000 for a decent run-around at the moment.
Hope BarleyGB gets/has got something they're happy with. x0
