Screws in wall... Help!

Hi everyone,

I have just moved and I'm undertaking my first DIY activity. Basically I'm painting two walls (they aren't proper walls, the hollow sort). They have a couple of screws in (which go into a socket thing in the wall). The previous people just painted over them and hung photos but we want the wall bare.

Can anyone advise?

Thanks

Could you post a picture so we can see what you mean.

Can you not just remove the screws and fill the holes with a tub of ready mixed filler and smooth off with a filling knife and some fine sandpaper?

Have you considered removing the screws and filling the holes?.
  • I wanted to but I don't know how to upload a pic, if anyone knows?

That's what I want to do but I'm not sure how to get them out of the wall without making a huge hole, sorry I'm a newbie to decorating!

You unscrew them and take out the wall plug (a socket thing in the wall) using thin nosed pliers. And then you fill the hole with filler and sand it down once hardened.
You might as well ask the Wizard of Oz to give you a big number as pay a Credit Referencing Agency for a so-called 'credit-score'

Or just remove the screw and use a bigger screw or similar and a hammer to gently tap the wall plug deeper into the wall. Some will go, some won't, but it's often a quick solution and leaves you a smaller hole to fill.

    Good point!
We really need to see a picture, and not the one hanging from the screw. ;)
OP, assuming you can get a digital picture, you can post it here using one of the many free image sharing services, such as image shack.
