I'm really not sure how to answer that. Why is anyone interested in anything, other than just being, well, interested...?0 -
In that case then they haven't really stated an age. Surely a job can be advertised as '1 years experience' other wise we could all sue them. Can you also advertise for a school leaver or 'no experience needed'?
I had to explain to the job centre precisely why we were allowed to advertise for someone over 25 who'd held a full driving licence for at least 2 years: part of the job was driving the company van, and the insurance company wouldn't insure who didn't meet those conditions.
Sometimes though you do just have to jump up and down and say "You can't do that!" Like when a childcare worker suggested that boys couldn't wear pink aprons, or a manager said we couldn't consider employing someone with a severe hearing loss ...Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
Only if that's proportionate ...
I believe not for a school leaver, but you can say 'no experience needed'.

And there are lots of jobs saying school leavers as I see them and have to not apply as its a waste of time.
If we are talking gender discrimination I have heard reasons why women have got a job over a man. ie the management accountant wanted to (and they said this in front of everyone) 'give her one'!!:eek:We’ve had to remove your signature. Yes, lots of useful info. But still nothing about what happens if a company is 'caught' using an illegal advert. Maybe it's never happened...?
Sorry was a flying visit earlier. The penalties vary and some info from the same site can be found here. 'Employee' can be read as 'applicant' if the discrimination occured during recruitment.
Someone would need to bring a claim against the employer at an employment tribunal - the tribunal applicant may be the job applicant or a campaign group perhaps.
The possible size of any award - i.e. compensation/damages - is unlimited but would reflect how serious the discrimination was and the loss suffered by, in this instance, the job applicant. There doesn't have to be any award at all but directions that the employer must follow.
And I think someone has already said, that the employer is responsible if an employee - in the conduct of their normal duties in the normal way - acted in a discriminatory fashion.0 -
I seem to recall something reported (so must be true ... ) about a 'professional applicant' who routinely applied for jobs which had adverts that were potentially discriminatory.
When she didn't get the job, she sued and got payouts.
Not the one you're talking about but similar this person lost.0
