How can I make my tesco bought internet phone skype

I got a lovely internet cordless phone from Tesco and thought I could use it with skype but cannot figure out how to. It seems to be tesco only. Surely this is just software? Any ideas?Much appreciated.(Have asked Skype, they don't know):confused:Lots of pals use skype not tescos service

If you could tell us what model/type VOIP Phone this is, then we might be able to point you in the right direction?

If the phone 'registers' with the windows Audio controls, you will be able to use it with Skype.

This was the problem with the Skype Olympia Cordless DECT/VoIP phone when it came out, it was probably the most popular voip phone in the early days but it was only any good with Skype as other applications just wouldn't recognise it.

    Do this:
Plug your phone into your computer and install it if need be (although you may not need to).

go to Skype, and within the Skype options, you'll have the choice to select an input device. You're looking for USB Audio, or something along those lines, NOT Mic in or Line in or anything like that but something else. If the option is there, your phone is registered with Windows Audio and you can use it like a normal microphone. If not, then windows isn't recognising the phone as an audio device, probably because the phone is hardware locked to only work with Tesco software.

Hi there, thanks for your replies. The phone is a Tesco FF128 Cordless USB Internet Phone seen at http://buy.tescointernetphone.com/ it feels nice in your hand, if you know what I mean. Patwa your advice sounds very good but I will have to wait till my husband gets home to try it. I really appreciate all the help and will let you know how it goes.:j

I use a Tesco internet phone (with a cord) for Skype with no problems. The phone came with Tesco software on a cd but I didn't use it because I'd read somewhere that it would have locked the phone to the Tesco service.

Installing the phone to work with Skype was a two minute job if that. Open skype, plug in phone and simply follow Skype's instructions.

I suggest you try the phone with Skype before you install Tesco's software or if it is already installed uninstall it and then try.

Good luck and let us know how you get on.

using the tesco cd will NOT lock the phone to Tesco. The phone is just basically a sound card in a bit of moulded plastic. I use the tesco corded phone (http://buy.tescointernetphone.com/details.asp?idProduct=468) for Skype, Tesco, Voipbuster and others. It will only use the software that you the user activate on the windows desktop. Therefore should you click skype, the phone will use that, click tesco, the phone will use that, etc. Just be careful to fully exit the previous program before the new one (e.g. close down skype fully before using tesco and vice-versa)

you can currently buy these phones in store for £7.49, which as they have £5 call credit incuded means that are just £2.49 for the handset effectively - bargain !!

    Hi!

    [STRIKE]Youl be wanting this then...

SORRY! thats for the cheaper corded phone....!!

However, a little googling found this:

    http://forum.skype.com/lofiversion/index.php/t66624.html

    Heopfully thats of some use.

The tesco software is good cos you get a free local land line number for people to call you on.... whereas skype costs. However, everyone else uses Skype, and its not possible to use both at once.

    :-)

until recently, I have used the same phone (E337 from Tesco) to both receive incoming calls (On the Tesco line) and to make outgoing calls using skype.

Clearly you can't have them both loaded at once, but Tesco has free voicemail as well as a free UK number so no problem really. You can switch between the 2 in a minute or less I find.

Skype had a very good promotion a few months back called 'Talk for Britain' that gave free UK landine phone calls for 6 months that I am still using. I also like the fact with Skype that you can send SMS messages to mobile phones fairly cheaply and not be tied into a cruddy mobile phone keypad.
