Tobacco Ibiza Airport

Hi

I'm flying out with Ryannair tomorrow to Ibiza with hand luggage only.

The weight limit is 10kg. Due to this weight restriction I was thinking of buying some tobacco at the airport AFTER my suitcase has been weighed at check in on the way back.

Will this work? or should I just take less and buy it at East Midlands Airport or in Ibiza? Will I be able to get golden virginia or old holborn at Ibiza Airport at 6pm on a Sunday?

If they're going to weigh your bag, it'll be at the gate - there is no physical check-in [unless you want to pay extra for it]
RA are more interested in the bag's dimensions than its weight

Ryanair are also sticklers for the one bag only rule so make sure they fit in your cabin bag or pockets

Buy it on the island itself- makes no odds with the luggage and much cheaper, Ive never actually had bag weighed just measured

Thank you mcfisco and alwayskint96 - I obviously hadn't thought this through!

Checked the dimensions on Ryannair the other day just to make sure they hadn't reduced them and measured the bag and its fine.

When I've had the pleasure of travelling with ryannair before they stop loads of people on the gate but usually take one look at my bag and let me through but there's always a first time! Its a sub zero bag and is slightly under the dimensions even with the carrying handle and wheels.

I'm a bit of a worrier and what I might do is check the weight of my bag now and if its under 10kg then buy 1kg at EMA and 2 kg in Ibiza with a back up at Ibiza airport if I can't find enough. I've spent many holidays with my DH trudging round the tabacs to get bacca instead of enjoying my holiday. I suppose in San Antonio we are near the shops anyway so will have a quick scout round.

When I fly with RA hand luggage only, I always take one of those small gym sacks and wear it under a coat or fleece or something.
I can then put my iPad, newspaper, phone etc. in that or what ever else I need on the plane.

Never buy tobacco at airports in Spain (apart from the Canaries which are outside of the EU) as you will find they are much cheaper in the resorts and you will be able to stuff your suitcase with as many as you want. For your own personal use of course...

Same goes for alcohol too.

But watch out for Dynamic Currency Conversion. Tabac shops are some of the worst for sneakily charging in pounds and using their own exchange rate. Always make sure you are paying in Euros.

Couldn't buy at EMA as travelling within Europe. If anyone is interested Old Holborn and Golden Virginia were 79 euros all over San Antonio and Ibiza Town. At the airport they were 98.90 euros. I was pleased to take the advice on this forum - many thanks!

The bag was checked for size but not weight at the boarding gate. Managed to easily get 2kg in my suitcase.

Now to get some sleep and detox............
