Lost Job

Hi Everyone,
First of all I lost my job today, and I will admit it was my own stupid fault, I was dismissed under gross misconduct, so i know how serious this is.
My questions are though, I have loans and credit cards, althoug I dont owe that much now, but without an income I will not be able to make the monthly payments, is there anything I can do about this, even if its reducing the payments for a while or freezing them (if you can)
Also I have been to the job centre and awaiting my interview for signing on, but I know with what happened with me losing my job the way I did, I probably wont get anything for around 26 weeks I am prepaired for that.
My next question is, I dont have a mortage or rent etc as I live with parents, will any of these effect them, by any of this I mean the fact I cant re-pay my debts, the loan and that is not serured on the house it is a personal loan.
I just dont want baliffs and that knocking on there door, and trying to take anything or there's.
I am also activily seeking work, but this is also hard, as I do have medical problems e.g. (I have rods and screws drilled into my spine) I have pain every single day granted its not horrific but it does stop me from doing any lifting, or bending or being on my feet for long periods, so would really need a desk job, or like at sainsburys as a check out person.
I also know it is going to be hard to find another job, as my previous company wont give me a reference, or will just say what dates I worked there from and two, I was there 7 years by the way, im now 25.
I know what i did was stupid and there was no point denying it, as I wouldnt be able to prove myself.
Also now I have left that company and they are sending me my final wage, and letter confirming my dismissal, can they call the police or anything.
As part of this was thieft, I admitted to this, but never gave a reason but my reason was this, I got addictid to online gamberling, as I was depressed I found for some starnge reason this helpped big mistake,
I have now taken steps to sort that though, and have asked the sited to lock my accounts which they have done and I can no longer log in etc.
I am not sure what else I can get help with there, because of course that helps with the sites I have signed up for but not the ones which I havent and dont want to go back down that road, any idea's on who I can speak to? and should I tell my previous work that was the reason, they will be phoning me I think tomorrow or day after about my belongings which are still at work.
Sorry this is so long, and anyone who is just going to give me lecture please don't I have had enough of them off parents and family (which i admit I deserve) but now just want to look forward.
I was very depressed in work aswell mainly due to my health though and pain, and I had a seizure while on my pain medication so have now had to come off all medication while they look into it.
Thank you for any advice
Angela

Hi Angela, really sorry to hear about your problems. As regards your loans and credit cards why not pop over to the Debt Free Wannabe board and the lovely people there will give you some really helpful advice.
Just a quick comment though. Debts belong to a person, not to an address, so none of this will affect your parents. More detailed advice will be given on the DFW board.0 -
Big hugs, I resigned from my job in feb for something that would have been gross misconduct. It's been a long 4 months.
I couldn't sign on as I resigned, but it is worth going and having a chat with them. They may be able to help finding new work or advice on where you can look. You will have to agree to a plan to find work with them and they will help you with CV etc.
Good luck.“Listen earnestly to anything your children want to tell you, no matter what. If you don't listen eagerly to the little stuff when they are little, they won't tell you the big stuff when they are big, because to them all of it has always been big stuff.”0 -
Hi, and thank you both for your replies, I am glad this wont effect my parents as thats the last thing I would want.
I am waiting for the job centre to ring with an appointment, I know I probably wont be able to sign on, but might aswell get things started.
I will need help with a CV I have one but it is out of date so glad I can get help with that.
Thank you

Hi Angela and sorry to hear about all your troubles
Get in touch with National Debtline - a charity that will spend time with you going through your options - they are really helpful

They are also a free number to call from landlines and mobiles.

Sorry but I think the debts are the least of your problems if you have been fired due to gross misconduct and admit stealing and admit to being addicted to online gamblingWe’ve had to remove your signature. Please check the Forum Rules if you’re unsure why it’s been removed and, if still unsure, email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

Ap007 yes i did admit to all that Compan are not taken it further I am gone thats all they wanted, and I have been to see people today about the gamberling and I am feeling a bit better, yes I know im in a mess, but there is a way out.
I am speaking to people all the time and things are coming together, all my gamberling sites are now blocked.
And I know it will be hard getting a job I prepaired for that, although I may have a job lined up to start in 6 weeks time ish, and yes they know all about it.Went Bankrupt on 24th July 20130 -
Hi Angela,
Sorry to hear your situation, I just wanted to put my 2 pence in - I was fired just over a year ago for gross misconduct and despite the shock, despair and feeling worthless I was still able to sign on for job seekers.
I was not eligible for any other benefits though - I find this odd as although I live in a flat with my boyfriend, we each pay half of the rent & bills so the job centre obviously expected my boyfriend to be able to cover my share easily. He was not able to cover my share and fortunately I had a small amount of savings (about £1500) that I could use for living costs.
I hope you are able to get back in control and move away from the gambling sites, it really will be a case of will-power to avoid the sites you have not yet used. BTW there is a gamblers anonymous if you were interested you can google it.
Keep your head up, addressing the situation is sometimes the hardest part and you have already done that.
Good luck getting back in to work,
H x0 -
I'm sorry to hear what happened, but I feel you have destroyed any chance of obtaining gainful employment in this dire climate.
I have an immense gap on my CV, and I can't get work because of it. That's all it takes to be overlooked. Tell you the truth, I am loving the time off.
Take this time out to do something amazing and more fruitful than working in a rubbish job for equally rubbish employer.0 -
Hi Makeyourdaddyproud and Halfbaked.
Thank you for your comments, makeyourdaddyproud I know I probably have althoug I have had a good friend who is opening a cafe in about 6 weeks who is willing to take me on, so might not be to bad, yes a lot less money but I should be working.
Halfbaked thank you for your comments and that advise on the gamberling I didnt know they existed but will look them up.
It was hard for me to admit it, esp to my family and they now know about it and are helping me aswell.
I actully feel a lot better, yes I have the debts but my dad said he was watching me get worse and worse but when he talked to me I said I was fine, and he said come the end he thought I was going to have a breakdown, but he now sees I am better, even in a day after admitting it all.
My debt mangerment should be ringing me Monday on what options I have.
Still waiting to hear from the job centre though, not sure how long it takes them, I am not a person to lie to them which was some advice Igot from someone (not on here) I wont do that and I have said I lost my job due to Gross Misconduct, didnt say why as they havent asked yet, but when they ask what happened I will be honest.
The time of me lying and trying to bury my head is over.
Thank you

o.k it will be hard to come back from this, but people do get jobs after coming out of prison/doing stupid things. It's good your friend will give you a job, this will help massively and hopefully this will all work out well.
Maybe you should seek help for the debts from one of the charities Martin recommends such as NationalDebtline, StepChange or your local CAB? Also maybe consider getting professional help for you gambling - maybe Gamblers Annoymous. Finally I think it is worth going to see your GP to have acess to services such as conselling or maybe altering your medicines to help with the pain and depression.
Hopefully now all this has come to a head you will get the help you need and can move onwards and upwards.

Edit: I presume you can appeal the dismissal if you wanted to and put forward your mitigation. It depends whether this is something you wanted to pursue or not really, it might be better to try and move forwards if you hae another job offer as this is no guarantee of your job back anyway.Making my money go further with MSE :j
