The will be much better than anything that was around 20 or so years ago. And most of us survived.

I don't know, some good old British cross plys would likely test better than some of the cheapest Chinese imports available today.

But echoing what's been said already, given the choice between premium brand part-worns and el-cheapo brand new tyres the new ones would always be what to go for.

You can't be sure what you're getting with part worns - you've always got to ask the question "If they're perfectly good tyres, why aren't they still on the car they were fitted to originally?" - the places that re-sell part worns aren't able to QC them anywhere near the standards to which new tyres are quality checked in their factories and recent reviews have shown as many as six in ten part worns professionally tested suffer from issues that could result in catastrophic failure (blowout) under normal driving.

They're not rubbish and they're not unsafe otherwise they couldn't be sold. You will however find they don't have such a long lifespan, stopping distance is a bit longer than better tyres and you will have to be more careful about monitoring your tyre pressures and altering it according to your car load.

And nobody said "think of the children" get decent tyres your life and theirs depends on it. <G>

Your just as likely to be hit head on with very little warning and little chance to put the tyres to the test.

I used to do a lot of miles and seen many accidents. And not not in my mirrors and i didnt cause them.

Worst one.. Car full of young lads lost control in the wet, Spun out and crashed into some poor guy that had just come out of hospital.

Both cars a mangled mess, Not a pretty sight. It was a tree lined dual carriageway. At the inquest the other driver said he didnt see a thing until the headlights in front of him and the bang.

aaaw - group hug....you are all so kind....

Today it has been wet and raining and I have been on the M25 (granted I didnt go above 65 and broke well in advance.....the tyres seem okay under normal driving conditions...

They have different coloured sort of stitching through the tyres - and I have been thinking, `I hope that nobody actually `knows` that these are cheapo Hifly tyres` because if you knew what Hifly tyres looked like, you would know they are on my car..lol

    Thank you all again.......much appreciated.

Psstt.. Anyone wanna earn some money?

There is this car on the M25 with cheapo rubbish tyres. If you brake test them i will say they lost grip and locked up and we can share the profits. :)

As long as they are black and round and hold air.. Which is something to check OFTEN.
Something i noticed on a previous car that had some Admiral? tyres. They lost air quite often. Steel wheels also so not porous. I has some Khumo's fitted and the pressure never went down. Other than the bit i lost testing them of course :)

Please check that one and report back.

I had 2 of these on one of my old cars. Not too bad, but not brilliant in the rain. I do push on a little, but wasn't driving particularly hard and remember a few times when they didn't take much to be pushed past the point of proper grip.

It does worry me that you say you wouldn't ever put expensive tyres on your car just because its an 03 plate - the laws of physics don't get easier for a car just because its 10 years old!

Would not worry at all about, they will be fine. There's far too much hype about this.

Have used budget brands for several years with no problems at all.
