Peugeot finance / Robins & Day

Sorry if this is in the wrong place.
My partner purchased a car from Robins & Day in 2007 or 08, he declined the PPI/insurance as he did not want it however the dealership told him that without it he couldn't have the loan so he signed as he wanted the car.
He finished paying for the car last year then wrote to Peugeot finance requesting the PPI/insurance back, they forwarded his request onto Robins & Day who responded that he signed the paperwork for it and therefore it was not mis-sold!
Is there anything else I can do to get this money back or am I wasting my time.
Thanks for reading.

No point just requesting the money back, you need to show (with evidence) that the PPI was mis-sold to you. What you have said is "hearsay" which you cannot prove I'm afraid.
You would need far stronger complaint reasons. Did you have savings which could have covered the cost of this loan if you became unemployed? Did you have a pre-existing medical condition that would have precluded you from ever claiming on the insurance? etc etc
No point writing back to this dealership now, the next stage of your "complaint" is to refer it to FOS.0 -
If you paid the PPI in with the monthly loan payment to term end with interest, this was Single Premium PPI and a reason you can use, and if this was not a final response, write back to them and reject the reasons for not upholding the mis sell.
Use the reasons moneyineptitude said too, if it was a final response, then go to FOS.
Look here http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/reclaim/ppi-loan-insurance#step2s
for other reasons that may apply too.0 -
Having now read through all the paperwork they called it credit protection insurance at £25 per month.
My partner purchased the car in June 2008 and had paid it off by June 2009 (I thought he finished paying last year my mistake) surely this proves the insurance was not needed?
Thanks for any responses0 -
Put complaint in to FOS if final response decision from dealership etc is final. I wont take Moneyineptitude word for it. Sorry.0

That is unlikely to be successful as it is your word against theirs. My partner purchased a car from Robins & Day in 2007 or 08, he declined the PPI/insurance as he did not want it however the dealership told him that without it he couldn't have the loan so he signed as he wanted the car.
That would have been in accordance with the (then) FSA rule DISP 1.7He finished paying for the car last year then wrote to Peugeot finance requesting the PPI/insurance back, they forwarded his request onto Robins & Daywho responded that he signed the paperwork for it and therefore it was not mis-sold!
That would not be a satisfactory response.
If the letter says that there were six months to take the matter to FOS and that time limit has expired probably not.Is there anything else I can do to get this money back or am I wasting my time.
On the other hand, if it did not specify the time limit (or that you could go to FOS at all) then the door remains open.
However, you need to show good reason - the most common is a single premium added to the loan.0
