severe mental health... trust me, if id of worked for you you might of found me hung in the changing rooms.... so.....

also this is the thing ..which debt charity should i go for? there is so many on tv... is stepchange the absolute best/easiest?

If that's the case then shouldn't you be entitled to incapacity benefit or something like that rather than job seekers allowance? I honestly don't know much about all of the different benefits etc but surely if you are unable to work through health then you should be on something that pays more than job seekers allowance?

As for the debt charities, they will all be able to help with a relatively simple case like yours. Just make sure it is a free service you use. Stepchange and national debt line are 2 of the most common ones i've seen mentioned on here.

i have severe anxiety problems and cant sleep cos i think they might turn up at the house ...which would cause my father to have a heart attack.... he worries about the slightest thing i cant tell my folks i owe on a card...

When I was in primary school one of those patronising youth theatre companies came round to put on an inspirational performance, the recurring theme of which was "nothing is so bad that you can't talk to someone about it". Strange what stays with you.

You *can* talk to your parents about this, they may be upset, but it won't kill them. Even if they can't help, you might find having things out in the open takes a lot of stress off your shoulders.
  • Have you spoken to the doctor about your mental health issues?

Sounds like you need some treatment!

This is EXACTLY what i worry about... your post saying they rang 20 times a day has actually made me feel terrible. i cant possibly have that happen!! this would cause untold stress to my family.

i only owe £1300 ... will they still call 20 times a day if i plug my phone in?

sorry i made you feel worse the point in what i was saying is that if you contact stepchange immediately they will give you advice and you will have a client ref number for them.

then just send it on to impact/vanquis and they will freeze the account for 30 days as soon as this has been done they will NOT ring / write / come to your house etc during the 30 days.

in this time stepchange will help you work out a affordable repayment plan based on what you can afford or if you cant afford to pay anything they will help you work out other options .

stepchange is a debt charity and they don't charge you for helping you once you have set up whatever option you are going to take via stepchange they will then contact the creditor for you so you will not have to deal with the creditor yourself as long as you stick to whatever you agree with stepchange you should NOT have further collection calls or letters from impact/ vanquis .

as for your mental health issues i know things can seem terrible but you really are not alone there is lots of help out there.

if you feel you can try and talk to your doctor about the way you are feeling and see if they can do anything to help you if you would rather not talk to your doc as its 2 difficult talking face to face about your feeling have a look on-line for a support group for people suffering mental health issues and chat to them anonymously just getting out in the open how you are really feeling should surely help lift a weight off your shoulders .

also i know you said you cant talk to your parents about what's been going on but i would try to sit them down and explain what's happening they may be angry/upset at first but they are your parents and i am sure they would be more hurt by the fact you feel that you have to deal with all this alone and couldn't talk to them about it.they can probably already see that your are stressed out / depressed ect and are probably worried about you but don't want to upset you further by forcing you to tell them what's going on. please try and get it out in the open with them it will lift a huge weight of all of your shoulders and they may be able to offer you some advice on how best to go forward .

thanks. im gonna call stepchange once i have a moment in the house alone.
i just now came home and have a second impact letter for £119... i got the xact same letter 4 days ago.

£119 does sound like a lot but it is when you have nothing... and i do mean not a single penny.
i cant call them when there are people in my house since my paranoia is extreme to the point i think everyone is listening to me.

    thanks anyway folks.

if anyone else can help put me at a bit more ease id appreciate it.

if you dont want to call incase anyone hears you you can do it online stepchange.org/Debtremedy.aspx just answer all the questions and they will give you a personal action on screen then at the end if you want to go ahead fill in your personal details and they will email you all your paperwork and client ref number :)

good luck and i hope things improve and you feel better soon x

i just filled out the online form and got a reference number in an email.

do i now call them and quote the number?

i didnt want to leave a time for them to call me cos like i said ealier i have the house phone unplugged as much as possible (till someone notices it )

im gonna call them anyway and see what they say. anything to stop random calls. vanquis have so many numbers ..one that called my mobile a while ago was a local one and she called me by my first name as soon as i answered as if it was someone who knew me!! i googled the number..and ... it was on the vanquis list. so..as you can imagine this does nothing to ease paranoia and anxiety.

just wish i could find £1300 give it to them and close it down. accepting that card was the worst mistake ive made in years .

I realise that you are blaming yourself for this, and clearly you made some bad choices. I also feel however that firms like this that target people who may be vulnerable with credit that they have no prospect of ever repaying are the lowest of the low. What they have done should be illegal, or at least against the terms of their credit licence.
