Have a look at the garden law website. I belive it is the dog owners responsibility to nt llet their dog stray, so it would be for your neighbour to make sure his dog doesn't come into your garden. That said, if someone is as unreasonable as that.... Chicken wire, or its amazing what you can do with old pallets

    Sorry about spelling

Edit: regardless of who's boundary it is

open your back gate.. bye bye doggy!!!

Shovel up turds and flick over fence.. childish but gratifying!

usually your responsibility is the fencing to the right of your garden..

Post it to him...Marked lost property..Dirty scumbag..

    3 panels= 6ft x 6ft £68.
It is nice to see the value of your house going up'' Why ?
Unless you are planning to sell up and not live anywhere, I can;t see the advantage.
If you are planning to upsize the new house will cost more.
If you are planning to downsize your new house will cost more than it should
If you are trying to buy your first house its almost impossible.

When I bought 6 x 6ft panels I am sure they were only about £10 each from B and Q, and then the posts and cement - I think what youve been quoted is a tad steep!
If you look at your deeds it probably has what boundrie walls/fences youre responsible for, but regardless of that I think anyway it will be down to you to put the fence up. How about the chicken wire and then plant shrubs infront of it?

  • Do you have a gate, If you have then maybe leaving it open just when it is let out would be good. . Its not up to you to look after his dog.

1: it's your property, if it is invaded by an aggressive animal, you have every right to defend yourself. So if the dog is growling and be aggressive - ignore the rspca, there's little they can do against you, and alot against the owner - you can defend yourself. (they say dont do anything, because obviously they dont want animals injured)

2: you need to find out who's responsible for the boundary. If it's your neighbour, then you can insist on a fence.

3: if he has damaged your property, ie plants etc, you should file civil lawsuit for damages. - this can benefit you, in terms of a possible harrasment case.

4: contact the dog warden, ask him if this really was the advice given? It is absolutely incorrect. (i have kids, and if a dog kept coming into my garden and growling, it'd end up in the canal after trying everything you have already. )

I think it's the owner that's growling and aggressive, so sticking him in the canal might be slightly more problematic.

Some really good suggestions on here as to how to deal with this...I like the chicken wire idea the best, effective and cheap, and easily hidden with plants and shrubs.

Please op, don't follow the suggestions of leaving your gate open for the dog to wander off....poor dog, it's not his/her fault that the owner is a a$$.

I totally agree. Shame on everyone suggesting the OP should cause the dog harm.

OP, if it really bothers you fence it off yourself. I have no idea who has quoted you £330 for 3 fence panels but they are taking the pi55. Have you actually researched costs yourself? I've just fenced one edge of my garden - 7 x 6ft panels, 6 posts plus all the bits and bobs for about £140. It's not hard to put up a fence either.

It's a shame that you keep getting bad folk next door but I think you are limited in what you can do. Behaving like a pathetic child, as some have suggested, won't do you any good. You've got more to loose and if the authorities won't get involved you're fighting a loosing battle.

Good luck with whatever you decide to do.
