Paying off my Halifax Credit Card

Hi everyone

I am after some advice. I recently got a new Halifax credit card with interest and balance transfer 0% for 15 months (using Martin's advice)

I have just received my first bill. I bank with Barclays and wanted to set up a standing order to pay my bill. My credit card reference wasn't in the list of options on Barclays Online Banking. So I gave Barclays a call and they said I need to use telephone banking to pay it. I tried this option but it keeps bouncing it back (I have the sufficient funds).

I rang Halifax to see if I was using the correct sort code etc and they said that there is an issue with Barclays paying them. They said this has been going on 2 years. They said only way I can do it is going into the branch and paying cash.

I rang Barclays back and they said it's Halifax fault for rejecting the payment.

It is ridiculous. I am trying to pay my bill. The only other option Halifax has given me is set up a direct debit. This is ok and I have done this to ensure I am paying my minimum payment. But they said I can't over pay and have my direct debit, which I think is silly.

Has anyone ever heard of this? If anyone could help me that would be great

Thanks

On the back of your statement there'll be a sort code and account number, send the payment to that, using your sixteen digit card number as the reference.

Works a treat for my Clarity card, but Halifax cards are a pain to pay in my opinion!

I'd suggest making a complaint with Barclays. Send in a photocopy of the back of your credit card statement to prove that the sort code and account number are correct.

It may take Barclays a little while to correct it, but they certainly should be able to do it.

I don't understand what this means.

You can overpay any time to the card company, even if the mimimum is on direct debit, - it could be that Halifax thought you wanted to pay more than the debit amount - usually full payment or a set % of the bill,

Are you absolutely sure you can't specify the reference online? I'm not a Barclays customer, but it would be very odd if you had to select a reference from a pre-set list.
