A very stupid question about electricity

You will need a min of 13A supply (preferably 16A) for the car charger, so if there is just a light in the garage then this wont' be enough0
-
Out of interest, are you getting an electric car because its cheaper or a misguided notion that its greener? The places making these batteries are not green +++. The economics of electric cars are such that if you are serious then just pay up whatever you have to in order to get a supply into your garage.0

Also you'll look like a right tool in one.0

Seems like the tail wagging the dog here.... noble intentions to get an electric car but you really needs mains power close by and it doesn't sound like it's cost effective in a garage block. £7k worth solar panels on a garage block that'll probably get nicked/smashed ? I mean really

What you need is a nice diesel generator to charge the car lol !
Seriously though, maybe a hybrid maybe worth looking at?0 -
If all you need is trickle-charge power to charge a car, depending on the energy/charge requirements of the car involved you MIGHT able to use a solar solution on the roof of the garage (though security may then become an issue?).
Solar isn't an option. For one your most likely to be out during then day time when the suns out.0 -
I disagree. A 4kW system would be more than sufficient, the issue is one of cycling/charging time. It would, however, probably be uneconomic to implement!!
Would need to be a very large garage to get 16 solar panels on a south facing part of the roof.
And just when you need extra power for lights and the heater in winter is just when you're not going to get it.
As mentioned above a generator would be the only feasible way - but then you are using petrol/diesel for your propulsion.
Look at the mpg for the latest diesels. Some of them beat hybrids.Forgotten but not gone.0 -
