Another Manchester Restaurant

Notice you gave some helpful advice to someone going to the Lowry so hope you can help me too.

Not very money saving but am going to see Cats on Saturday at the Opera House Manchester and wondered if anyone had some recommendations for pre theatre dinner?

Not fussy about food types, but no Pizza or Fast Food!

How much do you want to spend? If you want fancy both the Midland and the new Hilton have restaurants. Or Panacea is quite nice and popular with local minor celebs.

Wagamama (Asian/Oriental food) is cheap and very good but not fancy or relaxing!

Tampopo (same kind of food as Wagamama) has a pre-theatre menu and is closer.

The Cornerhouse cinema does nice food (sort of gastropub style, steak sandwiches, fish, lots of veggie stuff), very good drinks and has comfy sofas upstairs, and is the closest I can think of to the Opera House.

I love the Olive Press, another one of Paul Heathcotes places and I believe they do a pre-theater deal. They do sell pizza but also some really good meats and fish

My colleague has just shouted over my shoulder to include the Gaucho Grill which apparently does good steaks but can't vouch for that myself :)

Topkapi Palace on Deansgate is very close to the Opera House, and does very good greek/turkish style mediterranean food. I know they do weekday lunch & early bird deals, not sure if they still do it on a weekend though? Very nice food.
If you fancy curry then there's Shimla Pinks in the opposite direction near the courts.
Why not look on www.5pm.co.uk to see if you can get a good deal?

Thanks for all your suggestions. Think my boyfriend likes the look of Cafe Rouge on 5pm site just for the discount...and the cheap prices at the Cornerhouse. Though I'm trying to push his wallet a bit further and go to The Olive Press or the stunning Gaucho Grill!
