Tesco TV - Rights

Hi,

I am new here and i really need some advice regarding a TV repair.

I bought a TV from Tesco's 16 months ago and it no longer powers on.

I went to Tesco to ask what they could do and they sent it for repair. This was 4 weeks ago and they have said it will take at least another 4 weeks before it will be fixed. They also said that the issue is with the screen, as far as i am concerned if there was a problem with the screen it would still turn on but not show anything on the screen?? Maybe i am crazy??

The issue is i have been without a TV for 4 weeks now and they have offered me £200 compensation however it cost more than that for the original TV and will cost more that £200 to buy a new TV with the same spec.

Also, the TV was sent off to be repaired to an outside company and its costing me money having to call both the repair company and Tescos as they dont seem to talk to each other.

Does anyone know my legal rights to ask for a full refund? Or replacement?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

They can decide to repair it as its beyond 6 months.

£200 compensation sounds extremely fair tbh and 8 weeks although a bit long isnt beyond reality for how long that could take.

You can ask for a full refund but you wont get it. Even if they offered a refund they would be within their rights to deduct an amount for the period you have had the TV (16 mths)

The normal reason for TV's not turning on is faulty psu, blow capacitors (which can be on the logic board or the main tv board) and faulty inverters/drivers. So its quite possible the cause is to do with the screen (albeit the board the drives the screen).

Is the £200 a partial refund for the tv? If so, how much did you pay for the tv? What spec is it?

I read it as £200 compensation for it going wrong, if its a refund then yes we need to know the original cost and spec

I did at first also, but that seemed incredibly generous - it would easily cover the cost of a smaller/ cheaper tv for the interim.
