First Furniture Price Promise

Hi,
I am querying a 'price promise' offered by a furniture company.
The price promise can be found on the firstfurniture.co.uk website (sorry cant post links).
I have found some furniture from another company on offer at £78.21 cheaper and so sent them an email for them to check it out!
We received this response from them today:
'We offer this item with a two-man delivery as the high gloss item is prone to damage if not handled correctly. We therefore would not offer a price match in this circumstance.'
It sounds to me like they don't want to offer the price promise! If the opposition deliver a damaged product, then I would obviously complain and get a replacement.
Finally, I have noticed on the bottom of the 'price promise' it states:
'Please note that we reserve the right not to uphold the price promise if doing so would result in First Furniture making a loss. The price promise will not be applied retrospectively to orders already placed.'
This doesn't sound right to me!
Any thoughts?
Andy

Sounds perfectly reasonable to me.
You'd expect them to sell you something at a loss?Thinking critically since 1996....0 -
Yes they don't have to sell it to you. They've told you why, they offer a better service.0

Yes - they have put themselves out there as matching the cheapest price. Their own choosing.
But they can refuse if the total product is not the same.
OP should ask if they can pick it up.0 -
I wouldn't expect any company to sell something for a loss, but just seems a little odd to me to offer a price promise, when the cheaper price meets each condition set out in their T&Cs.
They claim to constantly monitor online prices to make sure they are the cheapest!
Anyway, thanks for your opinions.0 -
I meant the product and the delivery - i.e they are giving you a better 'total' product that the competitor.0
