we had booked flights with jet2 for this year and cannot go so re booking for next year if we book now but get travel insurance later and cant go again will we be covred::??????

It depends why you can't go.
If you want to cover yourself against cancelling due to circs beyond your control (illness/jury service etc) then you ought to take out insurance at the same time you book the trip.0 -

The danger with not taking cover immediately, is that if something crops up in the meantime (i.e illess / injury / death in family etc), you will not be able to arrange cover for a known situation.
Generally speaking, travel insurance is pretty inexpensive. If you plan to purchase cover, I would do so as soon as possible, as soon as the holiday is booked, ideally.
