Van problems

Hope somebody will be able to give me some advice.

About two months ago I bought a used 2008 Transit van with 62,000 miles off a independent dealer about 150 miles away. All was well up to last week when the engine light came on and the van went into limp mode. It only does this every couple of days and drives perfectly otherwise.

Anyway, I called the dealer I bought it off who said I can take it back to them to repair or I can find a good local garage to do the work in my area as long as the garage lets the dealer know what they are doing.

I decided on the second option and took it to a garage I have used before who told me there were a few problems it could be. They then rang the dealer who gave the go ahead for the work to be done and I had my van back a day or two later.

The problem I now have is the issue hasn't been fixed. The dealer wants the initial £460 bill to be deducted from any further work the original garage do (and they refuse to)

The dealer said I can take it to another garage but before any work is paid for they want it in writing off the garage that the problem will be fixed or there will be no charge.......and I can't find any garage who will agree to this. They seem to want to change parts even if they aren't at fault.

Any advice would be good. The dealer has still offered to fix the problem but I really don't want to drive all that way again.

I would be going back to the dealer that sold it. You cant blame them for not wanting to risk paying out another sum of money and it not being repaired.
Sounds like they have and are being very fair.

You should really have taken it back to the original dealer as it was on them to fix it.

Thank you. I'll see if the dealer will compensate in some way for the two days pay I will lose. Thanks again.

I'd also do more homework on the van. That seems an unfeasibly low mileage for a workhorse.

Cant see them doing that. You should have some sort of insurance in place to cover that sort of thing.

Colino, it was the highest mileage van they had at the time. A friend in the area bout one off them years ago and they only deal in low mileage one owner vehicles. The one I bought was previously MOD.

That's unfortunate for you as MoD were the last of the, "maintain at all costs" brigade. Hope is works out OK.
