Cost of gas installation and central heating

I am looking to move and one of the properties interested in currently has storage heaters and no gas in the flat. There is gas to a downstairs flat. Does anyone have any idea how easy and how much it could cost to get gas into the upstairs flat and then have central heating with a combi boiler (it is a 2 bedroom flat with a lounge, kitchen and bathroom). Any help and advice gratefully recieved. Thanks

As you have no meter, im certain National Grid would be responsible for this job.... best contact them and ask?
Promo codes are never always cheaper..... isnt that right EuropCar?

Central heating system could be between £3,000 and £4,000. A gas connection could cost anything from £600 upwards depending on how much work is needed.

It may be National Grid, but I'm not sure if they cover Lancashire or not.

Depends if there is a primary meter, it really needs a visit for a proper quote as a gas supply can massively inflate the cost of an install.

My mum put off having gas installed for years because she assumed the cost of getting connected up would be huge, when she eventually gave in and got a quote she ended up paying about £600, which included digging a trench about 15 metres long across a footpath, Tarmac drive, and concrete path and making good afterwards - quite a bargain I thought!

Sadly, British Gas's charges to install a gas boiler in place of the existing oil boiler weren't quite so reasonable...

Find out who owns the gas main in the street outside

    http://www.nationalgrid.com/uk/Gas/Connections/GasServices/NetworkHome.htm

Then go to them for a cost of connection. There are standard prices for a short domestic connection which would usually cover a first floor flat as well. As above, some people are surprised at how low the cost is fearing it could be thousands, some are horrified and expect it for free. Unfortunately these days of having a guaranteed gas customer to get these costs back over 10-20 years are well behind us.

It's worth going to some suppliers to get a connection quote, sometimes they can subsidise some of the cost of a connection if you agree to a minimum contract with them.

PM me if you need any more information.

Up to 40m public and 20m private land is included for their set price of £749.

But, be warned, anything over this is ridiculous. My stepdaughter has now had a quote from them, 53m public, 17m private, just over £9000!!!

    How can they justify that?

Find out if you can claim a free gas connection or a grant towards it. If your postcode is in the top 20% deprived areas You can claim.

I have just claimed through Northern Gas Networks and they are coming to dig the trench and lay the pipe within the next 6 weeks or so.
