Should I accept first offer bank makes?

Hi all, I spoke to my bank on the phone a few weeks ago and went through the areas where I felt I was missold PPI. The bank investigated and wrote to me offering somewhere around £3K...it was on Missold PPI based on my mortgage ... however...The letter goes on to ask if i would like to accept the offer....now I remember back in the days when I claimed compensation from a car accident...the other party accepting full liabilty and offering £500 compensation...that was the first offer...and subsequently there were further incremental offers through my solicitors and we eentually settled....
My question is this...If this missold PPI is compensation, then would you recommend that I refuse this first offer?

There is no haggling. Unless you can show you paid more, accept it.Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi0
