Gas and electric account

Hello

So, myself and my partner live with her mum.

Due to her mums bad credit history when i moved in she was on prepayment. I then decided to take over that responsibility.

We are in the process of buying a house. So when we move out, do i need to cancel the account and get her mum to sign up with a supplier?

If so, chances are they will want to install a prepayment meter, would she need to pay a hefty security deposit until that's been installed?

She is hoping to move house with the council and it might actually work out that she moves a week or two after us. If thats the case, is it easier for me to just keep that account going until she moves out then cancel it?
Thanks

There is no reason you cannot have 2 accounts in your name at different addresses.

If you keep your name on the one at mother's address you will remain responsible for the repayments on it. So if she doesn't pay it then you are the one that would be chased.

If you remain the account-holder, you remain responsible for the bills. Do you want that?

If it's not an issue for you, might be easier just to leave the account in your name, esp if she is thinking of moving soon.

    But it's a personal decision.

    Hey

I just think it will be easier. Would save her needing to pay a security deposit for a few weeks.
