Kenya - currency exchange

Does anyone know whether it is better to exchange sterling for Kenyan currency in the UK, or is the rate generally better in Kenya?

If it's better in Kenya, are there commission charges to consider?

Better in UK without a doubt. (Says my old university lecturers that made countless research trips out there. Then again they did go to pretty remote areas so how it is in Nairobi and other main towns I don't know.)

IMHO i found that US $ were much more appreciated for exchange in the country than Kenyan Shilling.

You'll find quite few branches of "barclays" over there .

I used travelex for most of my currency , but then had to use the atm a couple of times also ( guards with big sticks protect you when at the atm - not to be used at night time :eek: )

For many hotels, etc, US$ would be better used. For small stuff like curio stalls etc, you should keep some shillings with you.
