i havent come across a building society yet thats been willing to do a withdrawal via bacs at branch level, u could contact yorkshire head office and c if they will do a withdrawal by BACS on reg saver account, if u have yorkshire e-saver u could transfer funds from your reg saver to your e-saver and then transfer the funds to your current account, other option is cheque which when paid into current account is not much slower than electronic transfer or cash from branch subject to branch cash withdrawal limits

I seem to recall hearing somewhere that you can set up an external linked account?
I'm going to need to think about this at some point, so if anyone could clarify the above, or suggest whether opening an e-savings account is a better option, I'd like to know as well. ;)

I have the internet saver, e-ISA and regular saver.
I've just logged into YBS and the i/saver and e-ISA accounts both provide a menu when you go through from "your view" into the account which includes several options including making a withdrawal, the regular saver only offers the options of viewing a statement/mini statement.
Thinking about it - it is a branch account with a passbook issued - so I think the only ways to make withdrawals are either by phone to YBS HQ or at a branch. Doesn't look like you can operate on t'internet even though I do inward transfers internally online from the saver account.

I did this the other day, just go into the branch and they will give you a cheque. Or if it's a large amount and you want cash, phone first a day or two before hand.

I have no problem going into a YBS branch to make a withdrawal. What I want to be able to do is send the money electronically to a non-YBS account. Having to accept a cheque (or indeed cash) is somewhat less than ideal.

i totally agree with u, i have long found it totally incredulous that in 2007, with the growth of electronic transactions having to go to a building society be given a cheque and having to either take it to another building society or post ( risk of delay) it to a building society due to building society branches not having the apparent interest and/or ability to key in a few details which would enable transaction to be conducted via BACS :(

most head offices appear to be happy to transact a withdrawal via bacs though :)
