Advice please about microsoft office licence

Thanks scooter, that is very helpful :-) unfortunately her "copy" has none of them!! She has no disk, no licence key, no nothing!!!!
How does she stand at the moment in the eyes of the law, would we be better taking the whole thing off straight away or is she better leaving it as proof that he put it there to start with.0 -
Leave it, contact MS and give whatever information they ask for, they will then verify if it's a legit copy or not. If it's not then the software should be removed from the PC when instructed by MS.0

Best to get it sorted now.
Imagine, in a few months time, if it is dodgy, matey gets investigated , dodgy copy traced to her.
Doesn't happen? BIL is partner in company training office personel they had to get rid of a trainee, who then told MS they were using pirate XP professional (they were legit), this resulted in some tense moments proving their innocence.Move along, nothing to see.0 -
Call Microsoft and give all vendor details.. They did this a while back with XP and if they catch the guy they will give you what you expected (a full copy of Office 2007)
They will also barr him from selling microsoft software as well as prosecution.0 -
Hi spud, thanks for that. We will get it sorted as soon as possible as she has no wish to break any laws, she is quite happy to pay for an authentic version (which she allready thought she had!) but I do think she should receive some sort of refund for this "what is increasingly looking like dodgy copy", goodness what a mess!! It wasn't a cheap setup either, she could have got it a lot cheaper buying the computer and a proper version of office seperately!0

As scooter says give MS the details, I was told that if you went near MS with a pirate XP you would get a message saying something like " tell us where you got it and we'll give you a legit copy".Move along, nothing to see.0

How much did she pay? Office isn't cheap.
If you stir up trouble with the supplier, it could come back to haunt you when something goes wrong. If you paid for the office, and it is on the invoice, ask him for the media and license key cert/COA.Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0 -
Hi Albertross, she paid almost £700 for a computer that I have seen online for £400 so there was a healthy profit in it for him, at the time of her buying it I didnt know her that well so couldnt offer any advice on the purchase or I would have told her not to go ahead with it. She was expecting a basic version of office similar to what was on her old computer (think it was office xp) but he came with the new version and told her it was better and more up to date. I am not sure about the invoice, I will get her to check. He has played a lot on the fact that she doesn't know very much about computers and she probably wouldn't have realised if I hadn't mentioned that she may need the disk in future.0

We have a development!! I forwarded all your replies to my friend who then forwarded them onto the man, I didnt use anyones username, jsut copied and pasted the replies, he has got back to her within five minutes and has said he will come out and uninstall the office and provide her with a full authentic version along with licence key etc. Thank you all so much for the advice you have given as I think it has shocked him to see that she had knowledgable backup (all of you!!) thank you so much0

I know the outcome has been good but I would still contact microsoft and inform them that a reseller is installing what would seem to be dodgy copies of software.0
