Solicitor requires additional documents signed at short notice

I have exchanged contracts and completion date was set for this Friday. Contacted solicitors at time of exchange and was told that was it apart from confirmation of mortgage money being sent on completion date. I therefore decided it be best if my partner left the country and went to her native country in Europe with our baby.
Last Saturday I received a deed of covenant stating we both needed to sign this. This is a bit late in the day and as my partner is out of the country it will take some time to send and sign etc. There is a deed of covenant relating to transfer of part of the land and a deed of contract between ourselves and the management company who look after the communal land.
Any advice?

Ask if she will accept a scanned version with the original to follow in a week?
Then you can email it over print, sign, scan and email back.
Its a document that needs signing. If they need the original then its the solicitors mistake so tell them you want them to pay for whatever postage is the quickest. Although i cant see why you cant email the document over so it only needs to be posted back - that should knock a day or 2 off postage. Ok thanks, ill see if they will do that. Surprised they left it so late considering its only 3-4 days until completion date. Don't their clients want there money as quickly as possible?0

1) always use a local conveyancer so you can pop in and sign stuff quickly and easily
2) never go on holiday in the middle of the process as Sod's law says if you do, an issue will immediately arise.

Having been told by the solicitor everything was done I'd assumed it was and my partner is out of the country to make it easier to do the removal.

Take your solicitor's advice on how to handle this. We can advise various things which are probably OK, but what really matters is what tricks your solicitor would feel comfortable with pulling on your behalf.You might as well ask the Wizard of Oz to give you a big number as pay a Credit Referencing Agency for a so-called 'credit-score'0

If there was a deed of covenant involved, your solicitor should have warned you about it when you saw him.
Ideally he should have had you sign it then. Sometimes the management company has its own format and it is difficult to get this quickly from them, hence the delay.RICHARD WEBSTER
