Dishwasher dainage problem

We have an indesit dishwasher - quite old ( was in house when we moved in 4 yrs ago)
Sometimes it works fine but on occasions it stops half way through the drying cycle, therefore there is some water left in the drain hole ( always kept clear)....or is it the water in the drain hole that stops the cycle?.....
Has anyone any idea why this should happen? Seems strange...

Sounds like it's could be either not draining correctly or not drying correctly.
I'd need more information to help much more.

HI
I think it usually drains correctly as it works fine most of the time.My OH has checked all pipes and they are not blocked.
I do notice however that when it doesnt finish the cycle that the glasses have a white sheen to them....
Let me know what other info you need and i will post0 -
Is there a model number on it?
It's really unusual to stop during a dry cycle unless something is touching one of the stats and causing it to trip, assuming it's an open stats in the tank job. :?

Try to locate the small pump (usually under the machine). Those pumps can be split in 2 by twisting/turning both halves locking devices anticlockwise. The little soft rubber impaller inside the pump can be blocked by solids that managed to pass the filter). Don't laugh, I had to call in the repair man a couple of years back for that same problem; a stone from a date was stopping said impaller from turning. I carefully looked what he was doing hence me now able to repeat the exercise). I remove a piece of liver from the pump last month. Hope this helps.0

Thanks for that!! I get OH to take a look..
For Kwatt - it is not an indesit but a whirlpool mod adp239av/wp
Type na1/2 -thats what it says on the label on the side of machine.0 -
A white sheen can be a cause of the rinse aid cycle not having been done. Rinse aid wets the water and makes it run of the items so you do not get the chalk remains.
Not draining can be caused by a sticking programmer. As it is an old dish washer this could be the cause. The programmer is a series of cams that rotate to turn switches on and off but the can wear out and not work properly.
It could also be a problem with the pump or pressure switch. The pump may be getting stuck/not working so the water never empties. If it never empties then the pressure will not drop so the pressure switch will not move the programmer on. Something in the pump is unusual as you have the filter to trap these items. It maybe an intermittent faulty pump.
I would think you possible have a Phillips dishwasher. Whirlpool bought them out but did not change the design for a while.0
