motorola atrix screen problem

I have a Motorola Atrix and the centre of the screen is no longer responding to touch - if you can imagine a strip running from the top to the bottom of the screen down the middle, this is the section that isn't working.
Do you think a new screen will solve the problem (my friend had a cracked screen changed locally for £20 last week) or do you think the problem runs deeper than that?
