Hair & Make Up

Options
Just a quick question for all you BTB out there. :)

What time of day are you getting your hair and make done and what time are you get married?

I just ask because I'm getting married at 11.30am, and just got an email off the make up artist, saying she can come at 8.30 and the hair person at 9am. I'm just worried its abit early, and by the time of my wedding, my make up will have melted off, smudged or whatever as I have quite oily skin.

Or do they usually come a few hours before?

I'm the same. I'm getting married at 11am. I'm the only one getting hair done but there's 4 of us getting makeup by the same person. I'm wondering if I'm gonna have to be up about 6 to fit it all in! All depends on what you're having done with your hair, the morning will go in a flash so give as much time as you possibly can for the hair and makeup and everything else you have to do, you might think that's nothing but there will be lots going on around you.

Have you had a trial with them at all - this is normally a good indication of how long it will all take?

I think we are starting hair and make up around 9/10, and my ceremony is 1.30. It's the same person (my lovely cousin) doing my hair and make up, and she is only doing mine.

Try working backwards with times, that's what we have done, and don't underestimate things, like how long it will take to put your dress on!

So our ceremony is at 13.30, but I need to be there prior to the ceremony for a chat with the registrar (so aiming to get there at 13.15)

Will have to leave the house about 12.45 to make sure we get there in time (vintage car and Saturday town centre traffic)

We are allowing about an hour to get into my dress as it is a lace up and quite fiddly - 11.45

About 2 hours for hair and make up (as it's the same person doing both we are estimating this, think it was about an hour and a half when we had a trial but can't quite remember) - 9.45

So that doesn't seem a lot to do, but working backwards and estimating how long each takes is a good idea.

I am having my hair done at 10am then she is doing my bridesmaids. My make up lady is coming at 12. Wedding is 2.30pm.

Wedding at 2pm, I'm planning to have the hair lady there at 9am - 5 ladies to do and one man. Will likely have a make-up lady turn up at 11am, she'll just be doing me, with the plan to start getting dressed at 12noon.

A friend's wedding was at 3pm, and her hair/make-up lady was there from 8.30am!

I got married at 1pm, I was in the hairdressers at 9am for my up-do and my make-up lady came at 11.30, which left us around 30 minutes before the car came for photos and a glass or two of fizz with my eldest son & my bridesmaid.

I would encourage a trial - your make-up lady will then be able to check which products will be best for your skin. I had mine for my hen-night which was an excellent test of its durability!

I know, I'm thinking "what time am I going to have to get up?"....not that I'll probably be able to sleep anyhow!

There's just me getting my hair done, and me and my Mam getting our make up done. My hair is long and I hate wearing it back/up, so will probably just get it curled retro style, abit like a cross between Katy Perry and Dita Von Teese!

Good idea about working backwards, makes it seem not as bad.

My dress shouldn't take much getting into as it's a VOH swing dress with a petticoat underneath.

I haven't had a trial, and I don't know if I'll get a chance to do so, as they are in Gretna, and me about 50 miles away. It would be nice to be able to do so, so we'll see if I can squeeze one in!

Seems the general consensus is that the make up/hair people do actually come a good few hours before then. :) I was just worried as I know what I'm like, I'll be that nervous, I'll get in a flap and all my make up will run off! :rotfl:

I'm not sure if I'll be able to fit in a trail, but it would be good if I could though. :)

What was the durability of your make up on your hen night like?
