Scottish Power Feb 2016 Fixed Rate Deal - Good or OMG ?

Hi. I decided this month to investigate the latest prices for gas and electricty, having looked at them last in January. This was promted by a phone call from Scottish Power.

While NPower sounds good according to this website, doing a comparison on their own website I could only save £100 on the year. I check out the EDF Blue deal too which is better acording to MSE. I also did a check on USwitch by way of getting any other offers.

I currently pay £110 on a variable Standard Dual Fuel tariff. Gas was 13760 KW and Electric 4360 KW based on annual figures from BG website. Fixed rate seems to be the way to go at present.

Some times it pays to talk to a human being, when they rang up a week later having gathered all the inforamtion, I told the chap from SP what I had found out, and SP quoted and confirmed a price of over £10 a month cheaper than their own online price, which achieved this saving based on current prices : On the BG webiste, on fixed rate deal till April 2015. I would save at least £21.25 a month with Scottish Power. That is a saving of £255 a year on the British Gas fixed rater deal and it lasts till 31st Jan 2016 ! I will have to check these figures when the post gets here.

Even though on this forum it appears not one of the energy suppliers is good, any thoughts, or am I about to get done like a kipper as the Trail Boss would put it ?

Thank You

    Hi DH

Yes I now have have a written agreement, and it explains everything.

Two things that caught my eye firstly the costs are based on less than what we stated we had used i.e. 3950 kwh for electricity, and 11261 kwh for gas which is somewhat less that I quoted for.

I have also found there is a daily service charge but it is unclear if this is the rates BG electricity rates according to SP 22.109 pp kwh, threshold 13.492 - SP is a flat rate of 12.90 pp kwh with a flat rate of 31.50 p as a daily service charge.
On gas BG is 8.175 pp kwh, threshold 670 kwh, secondary rate 4.630 pp kwh - SP 3.945 pp kwh with daily service charge of 31.50 p.

I checked this again today, and confirmed the different, see first paragraph :o My figures suggest Scottish Power may be err rigging the deal ? I am not sure but the maths just do not make any sense ?

Your imput would be very helpfull
    - Thanks

As I have no one who is a maths wizard respond, I am going to turn this offer down, had another chance to have a look at this tonight.

It is bad practice for Scottish Power to be selling this as a like for like. I am not happy, if this is how they do business it is a great shame.

With all this talk of fracking and shale gas, I think there is a good chance that the price of gas and electricity going down in the future. I hope all the traders are pooing their pants and start dumping energy contracts.

I spoke to a very helpfull lady called Caroline at SP today and she confirmed having gone through the figures that they were wrong. Caroline did a recalculation and found it would be more expensive for me to move to Scottish Power on the Feb 2016 deal. So she tried to put me through to "Customer Care", after forty minutes plus I gave up and Caroline said she would email the department and I should hear from them in 5 days.

I am going to send a cancellation email any way, just incase. I do not have a high opinion of a company who keeps you waiting on a phone for new business for forty minutes. I do not know if it was a genuine mistake or miss selling, either way it has not been a good buying experience.

I think EDF are just about to gain another customer.
