Returned a pair of shoes that only lasted 10 days, are these classed as faulty?

I bought a pair of kickers shoes online from sports direct however after only 10 days wear they were in a terrible state so i had to return them as faulty. It cost me nearly £7 in postage to return these shoes however sports direct will not refund my postage costs as they say they do not class the shoes as faulty? Is this correct as according to the Sale of Goods Act products must last a reasonable length of time?

Just to be clear what exactly do you mean by 'terrible state'?

Did they actually develop a fault after being worn for only a short time?
